In Germany, the advertising sector changed profoundly after WW II. As a result, there was a considerable influence on the Americanisation of consumer behaviour. Today, American marketing methods predominate. This process of Americanisation occurred in two stages: first, the rise of advertising agencies in the 1950s and then the development of marketing concepts tied to the growth of mass consumption beginning in the mid-1960s. Nevertheless, there remain important differences between the German and American models of the advertising sector.
