L’historique du capital-risque français est déjà fort ancien. En fait, l’origine remonte au XVe siècle. Mais c’est aux États-Unis, au début des années 1940, que le venture capital est apparu. En France, le capital-risque a effectivement démarré dans les années 1970 pour connaître quinze ans plus tard une véritable explosion. Aujourd’hui, la profession des capital-risquers est en pleine mutation et s’est progressivement orientée vers une spécialisation financière dans les opérations de développement. Le capital-risque n’est pas un phénomène de mode, mais une réalité durable qui sera amenée à se développer très fortement au cours des prochaines années.
Venture capital in France has already a very long history. In fact, its origins go back to the 15th century. As regards the United States, venture capital appeared around the beginning of the 1940s. In France, venture capital really started off during the 1970s before knowing a real explosion fifteen years later. Today the profession of venture capitalists is in full mutation and is progressively turning toward financial specialization in the areas of development. Venture capital is not just a question of fashion but rather a lasting reality that will induce further developments in the coming years.
